According to an old saying in Europe, heaven has French cooks, English police, German mechanics, Italian lovers, and it’s all run by the Swiss. Hell, in contrast, has English cooks, German police, French mechanics, Swiss lovers and the whole damn place is run by the Italians.

Say that on an American campus today, and the shrieks and squawks of the "Politically Correct" -- the cultural Marxists -- will deafen you. Racism! Stereotyping! How dare you!

In fact, it’s the "Racism!" charge itself that’s disingenuous. Are Irishmen Russians? Are Italians Swedes? Are Africans Chinese? Of course not. As Edmund Burke pointed out some two centuries ago, such "stereotypes" are among the most rational and scientific of observations, because they reflect what many people have observed over time.

Reality tells us that there are differences between races and between ethnic groups within races. The ideology of Political Correctness forbids us to acknowledge that reality, but when ideology and reality conflict, it’s ideology that’s bunk. The usual "Racism!" cry is as phony as Bill Clinton’s virtue.

Of course, there is real racism. Real racism says that all members of a race reflect the group’s characteristics. That is wrong, because it also contradicts fact: individual variation is wider than group norms. But the Politically Correct also deny that reality as they try to shoehorn their clients into this or that "victim" group. In the end, their whole game is a scam.

The same is true of "sexism." It’s another fraud, because differences between men and women are real, and their different social roles proceed from their inherent differences. The more science learns about the human brain, the more differences it finds between brains of men and of women. It isn’t just social conditioning that makes men soldiers and women homemakers, it’s nature. And when nature and ideology clash, guess which one wins? Most of feminism is just resentment against nature. Ever notice that most campus feminists are girls too ugly to get dates?

The third false charge of the cultural Marxists is "homophobia." It’s phony because "phobia" means "fear," and most people don’t fear homosexuals. They disapprove of what homosexuals do, which is a different matter altogether. And, that disapproval is also rooted in fact. Homosexuality is abnormal and unnatural. As one commentator noted, the parts don’t fit. That’s reality’s way of telling us what is intended, and what isn’t. Homosexuality is no more "normal" than dating outside your species.

So how does the cultural Marxism called Political Correctness get away with all these lies? On college campuses, it’s taken power thanks to weak-kneed trustees and college presidents, fellow-traveling faculty members and loud minorities of students. And, like other totalitarian ideologies, it uses that power to create terror. Anyone who dares dissent in public is shouted down, physically threatened or dragged into some Star Chamber college disciplinary process. The real "victim" of Political Correctness is truth.

But truth is what colleges and universities are supposed to be about. Truth demands facts and rational argument, not chants, demonstrations and terror. If colleges decide to reject rational inquiry and demand the ideology of cultural Marxism instead, why should we pay $20,000 or more to go there? And why should the average American subsidize them with tax dollars? Lies at least should be cheap, because in the end, they are worth nothing.
