Catholic colleges operating in the secular world could go the way of Protestant colleges in the last century or so. “Harvard, Smith and Oberlin were started to spread the Gospel,” Michael M. Jordan of Hillsdale College reminded the audience at the Philadelphia Society’s regional meeting in Atlanta in early October.
Flash forward to 2013:
Indeed, Spencer Irvine of Accuracy in Academia has compiled a list of colleges founded as Protestant institutions that includes not only all of the Ivy League but also American University, Duke Emory, Temple and Vanderbilt .
Meanwhile, among Catholic colleges and universities this year:
- Providence College [4] added sexual orientation and gender identity to their non-discrimination clause, Campus Reform reported. Campus Reform is a project of the Leadership Institute founded by Morton Blackwell.
- Last month, “administrators at Marquette University (MU) in Wisconsin, have decided to pull their support of a sexually explicit ‘FemSex’ workshop students had planned for the next 12 weeks of the semester,” Campus Reform reported. “Campus Reform reported last week that the on-campus workshop was to include erotic themes such as orgasms, masturbation, sex, kink, and sexual identities, according to its syllabus.”
- “While claiming they have ended elective abortion coverage in their healthcare coverage, Loyola Marymount University’s board of trustees has decided to offer supplemental insurance to faculty and staff, which would provide abortion coverage for employees who pay for it,” Matthew Archbold [5] reported on Life News.com.
