GWU Goes For It

Apparently George Washington University thinks it is too anonymous. On February 4, 2010, Drew Spence [1] reported in the GW Hatchet Online that “Five new staff members have been hired to GW’s Office of Media Relations over the last six months in hopes of increasing the amount of media coverage the University receives.”

Well, we’ve been doing our part. Accuracy in Academia has been profiling GWU [2] for years. Spence goes on to report that  “Two new media relations specialists, as well as new associate and executive directors for media relations and a sports information director, were hired as part of a shifted focus on reaching out to members of the media with content rather than simply fielding questions from the press.”    That will be a tremendous aid to reporters too lazy to do their own research, not that there’s a lot of them [3] or anything…

That same day, February 4, 2010, Madeleine Morgenstern [4] reported in the GW Hatchet that, “The Student Association’s mid-year report found that more than half of the SA’s cosponsorship funds remain, the chair of the SA’s Finance Committee said Tuesday, adding that student organizations that have not made good use of their SA money may risk having it reclaimed.”

“There is currently $166,064 remaining in the cosponsorship fund for the year, part of which is expected to be allocated to 15 or 20 new organizations in the coming weeks. At the same time, organizations that have spent little to no money this year, or that have negative balances, are being asked to submit explanatory reports to the Finance Committee, said Connor Walsh, U-At Large.”

They could share some of that elusive spondulex with the Young America’s Foundation [5] chapter on campus and show them some love. At least, they could…
