Maze on Independence Avenue

The Department of Education (DOE) seems prepared to talk about its problems–but unwilling to do anything about them.

Last week, the Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools asked for a meeting with FRC to “discuss” our concerns about the Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools, which is being headed by the founder of the Gay, Lesbian, Straight Educational Network, Kevin Jennings. We were given little information about the meeting including who else–if anyone–would be in attendance and whether or not the meeting was public or “off the record.”

Unable to answer those questions and uncertain how the meeting would be used to try and give credibility to the controversial Safe School “czar,” I declined the invitation to attend and provided my concerns and recommendations for the Office in writing.

The eight-page document touches on several reasons why Jennings is unfit to serve, including his record of prior drug use, child sexual abuse cover-up, and his aggressive homosexual agenda for classrooms.
