A professor at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay claimed that school police officers eventually “normalizes authortarianism.” Andrew Austin, who chairs the Democracy and Justice Studies, wrote an essay that this “garrisoning of schools is disruptive to learning and community,” among other claims.
Yet, Austin did not take a position of whether having armed school resource officers (SRO’s) would help stem the recent school shootings in different locations in the country.
