Fresno State Prof Behind ‘Dead’ Comment on Charlie Kirk is Back in the Classroom

Fresno State has reinstated a professor who made a caustic comment in the aftermath of the Charlie Kirk shooting after placing her on paid administrative leave while they conducted an investigation. Immediately after a video of her remarks began circulating, the school issued the following statement:

“Fresno State is aware of a video circulating online that appears to record a lecturer making a disturbing comment about the death of Charlie Kirk,” it said. “The university has launched an immediate investigation into this incident. We condemn, in the strongest possible terms, any language that celebrates or condones violence. Such remarks are antithetical to our values at Fresno State.”

The controversy began on September 10, 2025, during a lecture at Fresno State. After a student mentioned that Kirk had been shot at Utah Valley University, an audio clip captured Brennan telling her students, “You want to know what I think? It’s too bad he’s not dead.”

While the university didn’t release any details of their investigation, they apparently agreed with the California Faculty Association that her secretly recorded remarks were protected free speech even tough many students and community members disagreed.

Brennan never apologized for her remarks and has adjusted her syllabus for her class to prohibit recording devices in the classroom unless she specifically approves them.
