When academics attempt to understand conservatism, they prove the wisdom of that old adage: Never let college interfere with your education. “Contemporary conservatism is based around one simple myth: those at the top deserve to be there, and so do those at the bottom,” Ian Reifowitz writes in a post that appeared on the academe blog maintained by the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) .
Reifowitz teaches history at Empire State College of the State University of New York. Evidently Reifowitz never noticed those t-shirts that were out a couple of years ago that read, “I paid more in taxes in 2010 than GE did.” Full disclosure: I have one.
