Students at Boise State will host a lecture on illegal immigration by the President of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps (MCDC), Chris Simcox. The lecture will take place on Tuesday, December 4th, at 7:00 PM in the Lookout Room of the Boise State Student Union Building.

For several years, Simcox has been the President of the MCDC, a group of citizen volunteers that patrol the Arizona/Mexico border, and is currently engaged in building a security wall on private property along the border.

“This is a great opportunity for community members and Boise State students to hear about how citizens are taking action to address problem areas where the federal government is failing,” explained Trevor Grigg, President of the Boise State College Republicans. “We are pleased to be able to bring a speaker with personal knowledge of the illegal immigration battle being fought on America’s borders.”

Simcox is a frequent public speaker, and has addressed students at colleges nationwide, including Michigan State University and New York University. Simcox’s lectures are well-attended, often opening campus discussion on illegal immigration.

“Simcox has had great success in raising awareness of the illegal immigration problem among student populations at other schools,” said Jonathan Sawmiller, a BSU College Republican who helped organize the event. “His first-hand perspective will be a great addition to the diversity of illegal immigration views currently being promoted on campus.”

The event is free to the public; doors will open one hour early. The lecture is sponsored by the Boise State Conservative Student Coalition, the Boise State College Republicans, and Young America’s Foundation.
