Columbia University Students Demand Removal of Thomas Jefferson Statue

In addition to demanding the removal of the statue of Thomas Jefferson, one of America’s Founding Fathers, Columbia University students accused Jefferson of white supremacy and put a white hood on the statue’s head to symbolize the Ku Klux Klan.

Jefferson was not a Klan member, as far as history is concerned, but it was an attempt to paint Jefferson as a white supremacist.

Let’s see – Thomas Jefferson is responsible for Article 6 of the Northwest Ordinance which Prohibited Slavery and in his 1806 Inaugural Address advocated Ending the Slave Trade as set forth in Article 1 Section 9 of the U.S. Constitution:

“I congratulate you, fellow citizens, on the approach of the period at which you may interpose your authority constitutionally to withdraw the citizens of the United States from all further participation in those violations of human rights which have been so long continued on the unoffending inhabitants of Africa, and which the morality, the reputation, and the best of our country have long been eager to proscribe.

Although no law you may pass can take prohibitory effect Ôtil the 1st day of the year 1808, yet the intervening period is not too long to prevent by timely notice expeditions which can not be completed before that day.”

Leave Jefferson alone, as the philosophical change occurred in 1837 with Senator John C Calhoun (D-SC) and his refutation of the Founders and philosophy of slavery being a “positive good.”

Does anyone teach our country’s history any longer? Or, is simple minded Virtue Signalling like “Well he WAS a slave owner wasn’t he?” really justify the ignorance of today’s Columbia College students.
