California State University Northridge political science professor Karin Stanford has been on sick leave since January, since the administration has not granted her professional leave. Her decision to not teach classes came when her anti Trump examination question was made public. The question asked the following:

“Donald Trump frequently made statements of an _____ nature throughout this presidential campaign?”

The answer options were: “anti-Mexican,” “anti-Muslim,” “anti-woman,” and “all of the above.”

Stanford applied for leave, but was denied by the university since they have options to help her feel safe. She applied for leave due to hate mail and comments on an article about her exam question, and she said due to those factors, she felt unsafe. The administration said they can provide armed guard escort, if needed, which Stanford may have rejected in her application for leave.
