Laura Corvino, an Italian immigrant who recently became an American citizen, used to teach Italian courses at Emory University. However, it came to light that she had staunch anti-communist views, in addition to anti-radical Islam views, because she published her own online blog on these topics. Regarding her views on Islam, she criticized female genital mutilation, which is common among some Muslims in the developing world. Apparently, that was grounds for termination for Emory University.
As a result of the controversy, Corvino was fired from teaching Italian courses at Emory University, which she said was unfair.
