Report: 38% of American Colleges have Bias Response Teams that Focus on Speech

Per the Foundation of Individual Rights in Education (known as FIRE), bias response teams are oppressing free speech across college campuses in America. From their report description:

Throughout 2016, FIRE surveyed bias reporting systems at public and private schools across the United States. We found 232 bias reporting systems publicized on American university or college campuses: 143 at public institutions and 89 at private institutions. Of the institutions that identify the personnel tasked with reviewing these reports, the personnel often included law enforcement (42%), student conduct administrators (63%), and public or media relations staff (12%). FIRE also observed that universities were utilizing broad definitions of “bias incident,” inviting reports of political speech for review by administrators and law enforcement. Using public records laws, FIRE found myriad instances of protected political speech, spanning the ideological spectrum, reported to Bias Response Teams.
