The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs no longer embraces the “Unmasking Whiteness” conference it supported because they found attendance was limited to self-identifying white people. “While UCCS officials view the program’s goals as ‘legitimate,’ campus spokesman Jared Verner said, ‘The promotional materials for this year’s seminar indicate that attendance is targeted solely towards “self-identifying white people,'” Debbie Kelly reports in The Gazette. “UCCS has been affiliated with this conference, now in its 10th year, since 2011, Verner said. But this is the first year it has excluded some races, he said.”
“The restriction violates the University of Colorado system’s non-discrimination policies, Verner said, which require that people of all races have equal access to educational programs and activities.”
