Teachers’ unions may not have taxpayers’ concerns at heart, as demonstrated by a recently-passed resolution from the Colorado Education Association (CEA).
According to Fox News, CEA passed a resolution which declared that “capitalism inherently exploits children, public schools, land, labor, and resources” and listed a plethora of left-wing, progressive causes.
The original resolution read, “CEA believes that capitalism requires exploitation of children, public schools, land, labor, and/or resources and, therefore, the only way to fully address systemic racism (the school to prison pipeline), climate change, patriarchy (gender and LGBTQ disparities), education inequality, and income inequality is to dismantle capitalism and replace it with a new, equitable economic system.”
But the resolution was changed and deleted the call to replace capitalism with “a new, equitable economic system.”
The final version stated, “CEA believes that capitalism requires exploitation of children, public schools, land, labor, and/or resources. Capitalism is in opposition to fully addressing systemic racism (the school to prison pipeline), climate change, patriarchy, (gender and LGBTQ disparities), education inequality, and income inequality.”
It was reported that, under the proposed resolution, there was a statement saying, “We are constantly using band-aids and minor reforms to make things better, which is good, but the system itself is the problem, and it needs to be named.”
The resolution, according to a spokesperson at the CEA, was not publicly disclosed due to internal processes and concerns about privacy.
The person who introduced the resolution was Bryan Lindstrom, whose Twitter account stated that he is a “union organizer.” Lindstrom also lists his gender pronouns as he/him and other information about himself, such as being a high school and college history teacher, “lifelong Auroran,” “education policy expert,” “Housing4All,” “Speaks Truth to Power,” and “90kg Powerlifter.”
Lindstrom has a city council campaign website which points out that he is “a progressive Democrat.” It appears that he is running for a seat on the city council in Aurora, Colorado. On Lindstrom’s campaign website, he notes that he is a part of the teachers’ union’s board of directors in Aurora and worked on the union’s “political committee.”
In other words, Lindstrom is a progressive ideologue.
The CEA is the Colorado state affiliate of the National Education Association (NEA), which is a progressive, left-wing teachers’ union.
