July 4th A Real Downer In Academe

Maybe they’d be happier if they thought it was April 15th.

Campus Reform got a hold of an e-mail from a University of Northern Colorado sociologist that is illustrative of the animus towards the holiday in academia. “Happy 4th of July on Wednesday,” Kyle Nelson wrote in an email to students in her Social Problems class. “Despite all the social problems we are facing and despite a ton of ugliness in our nation’s past and present, I hope each of us can find something to celebrate or honor or at least reflect on over the holiday.”

Maybe Kyle has some social problems that she needs to resolve.
