Green Mountain College, located in the small town of Poultney, Vermont, will close this year in the spring. The college is a typical small-enrollment liberal arts institution, and had invested more in developing its graduate student programs and online course offerings. But, none of the reforms worked and the college announced its closure.
Small liberal arts institutions like Green Mountain College are struggling as people are wondering if college is worth the substantial student loan debt. It is likely that Green Mountain College will not be the only small college to close in the coming years.
