The Millennial Morass of ‘Free Stuff’

Jesse Waters might be accused of cherry-picking low information millennials for his popular ambush interview segments on Fox News. The sad thing is, he doesn’t have to.

“During the primaries, more than 80 percent of millennials voted for Bernie Sanders,” Mercedes Schlapp, a writer at The Washington Times, said in a panel at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on “FREE stuff vs. FREE-dom: Millennials’ Love Affair with Bernie Sanders?”

On the same panel, U. S. Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-FL, noted that “Millennials are more open to socialism and less knowledgeable about it.” Part of their vortex of ignorance can be found in their knowledge of how socialism and communism actually work in countries that have adopted those ideologies as governing philosophies.

“Venezuela has been a ticking time bomb for 21 years, “Ana Quintana pointed out on that same panel, despite that fact that “Venezuela has the world’s largest crude oil reserves, more than even Saudi Arabia.”

Nevertheless, if the media, academia and millennials are uninterested in what is actually happening in socialist/communist Venezuela, someone with a pretty good job and an active twitter account has taken an interest. “Trump met with Venezuelan political prisoners before he met with leaders there,” Quintana said.

Also on the panel, Greg Dolin remembered what it was like growing up in the Soviet Union. “Health care is free,” he remembered. “There’s no medicine but it’s free.”
